Ink drawing of 4 geese
Four Geese Gandering – ink on paper

This charming gaggle of geese was my entry for the Wetcanvas weekend drawing event a couple of weeks ago, given the time of year it reminded me of the old nursery rhyme at the top of the page. Wouldn’t it be nice, I thought, to give those four geese a walk-on part in an illustration of the rhyme.

A discarded floral painting on a sheet of Stratmore oil paper served as the support for a rough blocking-in of the scene.

I chose the pthalo turquoise in order to give the piece a street-lit feel.

In the photo below I’ve got all the elements in place (except for the man’s can which I shifted downwards. Now ‘all’ I had to do was paint in the details.
