A Little Mouse with Clogs On Painting
A painting in acrylics on watercolour paper that is inspired by Ronnie Hilton's 1965 hit version of the novelty song 'A Windmill in Old Amsterdam'.
The song, which was written by English songwriters Ted Dicks and Myles Rudge, tells the tale of a mouse that lives in the windmill, goes on to marry a wife and has a whole load of kids (twins, triplets and quintuplets!).
It was a very popular song and was regularly featured on children's TV. It has a very catchy chorus which includes the lines:
I saw a mouse
Where?
There on the stair!
Where on the stair?
Right There!
A little mouse with clogs on...
In the painting we have the mouse, complete with clogs, clambering up some rug covered stairs.
