This background pattern is taken from the mixed media painting 'Lady with Blue Curls and Pearls'.
The surface of this painting reveals, through fine splits and crackles, a light coloured background. But it is overwhelmed by the purple and mauve acrylic glazes that have built up to a wonderful texture.
A handful of simple flowers, their golden stamens coloured in ink, are collaged onto the surface. Like petals onto a rough tree bark.
