Colourful Tulips on Blue Painting
A bunch of colourful tulips hand painted with acrylics and oil pastels.
Tulips, so strongly associated with the Netherlands, actually originated in the mountains of Central Asia. Cultivated first in Turkey they only came West in about the 16th Century. But they've made quite an impact since (including the tulip mania of the 17th Century!) and are featured in many works of art.
In this cheerful painting we have the reds, yellows and purples of cup shaped flower heads swirling amongst a mass of long green leaves. The blue of the background (sky perhaps?) ties it all beautifully together.
