After Magritte

Magritte's The Son of Man

Acrylic on Canvas 10 * 12 inches

Finally!  The last sheet in that awful book!

Here’s a version of French artist Magritte’s The Son of Man.  He seems to be in front of a field rather than a wall and the sea – I must check the reference I used!

After Thayer

Thayer's Roses

Acrylic on Canvas Sheet 10 * 12 inches

I love Thayer’s paintings and this one of a pot of roses is no exception.  It was quite hard to do, he has such a loose style.  The original is about 20 * 30 inches.

After Cezanne

Cezanne's Card Players

Acrylic on Canvas Sheet 10 * 12 inches

I bought a cheap book of canvas sheets, the surface is really rough and awful to paint on.  And I finally think I know what people mean when they say Acrylics have a plasticy look!

Anyway I’ve decided to use these sheets to do some studies of Master paintings, I’ll be posting my efforts over the coming months.

This is a copy of Cezanne’s Card Players.

Pompeii Fresco

Acrylic on canvas paper 7 * 10 inches

Acrylic on canvas paper
7 * 10 inches

I finally made it to the Pompeii exhibition (Life and Death in Pompeii and Herculaneum) at the British Museum.

There was so much to see about the daily lives of people who lived in these two cities including wall paintings and furniture.  There were also a couple of victim casts 🙁

I bought a little book published by the British Museum for the exhibition, Art in Pompeii and Herculaneum, which features one of my favourite pieces – a fresco of Flora, goddess of flowers and Spring – which I made a copy of.
